Donald Trump treats the truth as only one of several props he’s willing to use to achieve an effect. Truth sits on his workbench alongside hyperbole, sentimentality, bluster and just kidding. Use as needed.

Trump v. Gaga

Personally? I’m open to change. But I worry about loss of truth and justice, though perhaps the existence of such was only my perception.

But “Lady Gaga” can read!

I do not like nor respect nor admire Donald Trump, but I’m pretty sure he can read. I have to give him credit for pulling of the POTUS thing.

I read this earlier today and I thought it was so odd. What’s the worst thing that happens if a performance artist is bad at their job (or people just don’t “get it”)? People aren’t entertained, and they go broke and do something else. If the President is bad at their job (or people just don’t “get it”), the potential downsides are - well, shall we say slightly worse? Yeah that’ll do.

I think it’s an excellent piece. WSJ has a gamut. I think we are far from understanding the guy and that he and his cronies will pillage this country like hasn’t happened in generations.

Yes, all of that. Whitehouse run like a country club. Blatant conflicts of interest across the board. Maybe WWIII or WWIV. But Hillary wasn’t much of a choice, either.

Yeah, I am, admittedly, concerned over how Trump will actually act. It seems that many Americans have been fat and happy for so long they no longer fear making terrible mistakes. And I agree with the piece. I’ll admit I don’t really follow politics anymore, and when I learned Trump was a front runner it confirmed the reasons for my withdrawal. The American public desires something so different from what is right that the system is practically unrecoverable.

Where are you?

I am feeling rather disconnected at this point. I was saying that Hillary Clinton was a bad choice from the beginning, though I voted for her for no other reason than that she wasn’t Donald Trump. Not much of a reason, and one of American history’s most unelectable POTUS candidates. I also predicted early on that Trump would be liberal Kryptonite and I was correct.

Physically? The Bay Area in California. Ideologically? I don’t even know anymore. Somewhat of a disillusioned Libertarian I suppose. I believe in individual’s rights and Social Programs but wish we could simplify budgets and stop borrowing money. Id like to see the government do more collective bargaining for the people as well. Things like raising the minimum wage and days off per year. Frankly though, I don’t know enough about the government and how it’s run to want to make policy decisions about what to do. I would like to be able to vote for a strong, thoughtful leader, who could dedicate their life to thoroughly examining our direction and make thoughtful, kind hearted decisions on how to make life better for everyone. Love and kindness should always be first, but malice should be responded to decisively, thoroughly and thoughtfully.

I’m pretty amazed you were able to predict Trump’s effectiveness. Having gone through the California gubernatorial elections which ended in The Governator, I had assumed Trump’s bid for president was as much a joke as Gary Coleman and the like running for governor. I’m hoping I am wrong about Trump’s incompetence and will be pleasantly surprised by his leadership.

I’m in the Bay Area as well. I’d say that our sociopolitical orientations are very similar. I never thought Trump could go the distance, but I also thought HRC was a disastrous choice right from the start, while all my liberal friends and family couldn’t get past Never Trump enough to see how they were being failed by the liberal leadership. I did not see it as clearly as I do in hindsight, but I was right about it from the beginning. And in all honesty, early in Trump’s ascendancy, I was hoping he really would be a fresh populist change, but there’s really nothing new about him other than his performance artist persona. He’s filling the swamp with a bunch of rich old white conservative guys.

Here’s a question/thought experiment: when (was it Bill Clinton?) the POTUS used the full faith and credit of the US government to bail out the entire American automobile industry, there was a vociferous hew and cry from conservatives. Later, all debts repaid to Uncle Sam, and minus one or two brands, American cars are worth owning once again. Now, the president-elect goes and arm-twists specific companies into making specific deals and those same conservatives are mum. Is that a double standard or am I simply naïve?

Also, can factory workers making wire in Alabama really be thinking that somehow their job isn’t going to be taken by a robot eventually and that Donald Trump with his band of White billionaires will shed a single tear? Can they be that naïve? Still, having had 8 years to see what Hillary Rodham Clinton might have on offer, can you blaim them for voting for Trump?

Like I said, having largely abstained from politics, my commentary on certain issues will be somewhat lacking. Both sides, or put another way, everyone, is/are hypocritical. Do not believe that because you may personally have a strong ethical system that others do, and especially be wary of those that agree with you. Often times we are blinded to the hypocrisy of our “side” because they are agreeing with us. It is easy to overlook their methods when you agree with their goal. I only say this to point out that, yes, conservatives are hypocritical. Liberals are hypocritical. Everyone is hypocritical. I read a book called “The 48 laws of power”. It is an interesting book about obtaining power at any price, regardless of ethics. I recommend it, though I do not condone practicing it’s teachings, it is a good read to help understand why some behave the way they do.

HRC being a terrible choice? Why would you expect a population who cares about what sexual organs a person has to make a reasonable choice about who to pick for a leader? And I don’t just mean Hilary supporters. We as a population are pathetic for even having this be an issue. It’s pathetic that we care about gender, sexual orientation, or race. I get why we haven’t moved past it, I am not ignorant of our history, but I can hold us to whatever standard I want, and by my standard we are seriously lacking.

Be careful about labeling your enemy naive. They are not. Perhaps some of the masses are, but the “redneck with a gun who lost his job” is on par with the “vegan driving a prius who eats granola to save the planet”. These are silly strawmen created by the opposition to distract. Both sides have cunning people involved. They hide behind the facade of the imbecile. And also remember, everyone is the hero in their own story. These people aren’t dumber than anyone else, they’re making the best decisions they can with the information at hand.
